FRIENDS OF THE SOUTH ISLAND KōKAKO CHARITABLE TRUST

The South Island kōkako needs friends.

The South Island kōkako’s story has fascinated Kiwis nationwide and interest in finding this beautiful bird is huge and widespread. Backcountry users of all kinds are reporting possible encounters from South Island and Rakiura forests. Their reports and accounts are immensely encouraging.

We at the South Island Kōkako Charitable Trust will continue our efforts to confirm the bird’s presence in southern forests so that it can be conserved appropriately. We commit ourselves to helping others do the same through guidance on promising encounter sites and through loans of the latest detection equipment as and when they are available.

BECOMING A FRIEND OF THE TRUST

Now we can offer you two other simple ways of helping, whether or not you visit the backcountry.

We invite you to become a Friend of the Trust.

Simply donate a minimum of $100 annually and you can become a Friend now, here.

Alternatively, you can become a Trust Friend for Life here with a one-off donation of $1000.
